A terrible Gelatinous Cube is bearing down on Smilax! These ooze monsters can engulf a living man and digest him alive with their acidic bodies! At Ingrid’s urgent shout, Smilax drops his tools and pulls his sais. He turns to face the terrible ooze monster and snarls defiantly. Meanwhile, Ingrid throws on her helmet, draws her sword, and charges down the corridor toward the Gelatinous Ooze.

The Gelatinous Cube surges forward! Smilax feints to the right and then leaps to the left. The dim-witted ooze falls for his feint and glides down the corridor along the right side, leaving enough room for Smilax to leap and secure himself to the wall on the left. There is barely enough space, but Smilax is unharmed as the ooze passes by.

Now behind the ooze, Smilax attacks! He gouges at the monster with both sais, tearing chunks of acidic goo off the monster’s body. Meanwhile, Ingrid tears into the beast with her sword, Taddeo fires magic-hardened bullets from his sling, and Misako utters a charm of protection against the monster’s acid over the whole party.

Their attack is successful! The Gelatinous Cube collapses into jiggling pieces, still acidic but dead. The heroes are triumphant!

Now the problem is how to get over the quivering pile of acidic ooze! Ingrid gathers her sword and helmet and Taddeo’s club and shield and stows them in her magic Bag of Holding, which she tosses over the puddle to Smilax. Then she pole-vaults over the ooze with one of the polearms wielded by the skeleton warriors.

While his friends are figuring out how to get past the ooze, Smilax has a new problem of his own – Giant Spiders!
