Smilax returns from the eyeball corridor and launches into a wild, rambling tale with Ingrid: how he led the imps on a merry chase, reactivated the trap corridor, then pole-vaulted over the Gelatinous Cube and watched the imps disappear into puffs of smoke one at a time as they made contact with the acidic slime …. Ingrid tells him to save it for the trip home.

Taddeo, back in his regular form, clambers from the well. “So much for the octopus!” he yells.

Ingrid is concerned. “Did you leave it down there? It’ll continue to poison the well.”

Taddeo pats his belly. “Nope, ate it. Ferdy Farebrother’s water should clear up soon.”
