Misako and Smilax advance to confront the sorceress.

Her face is inhuman, gray and cracked with dead, glowing yellow eyes. Behind her, a giant cauldron bubbles, releasing foul fumes.

The sorceress raises her wand and bellows caustic phrases in a language painful to hear. Suddenly, a horde of demonic imps begins to pour from the cauldron!

“By the Gods!” cries Misako. “She’s opened a Hell-Gate!”

Smilax draws the imps away, down the eyeball corridor.

He knows he is ill-equipped to contend with a sorceress, but imps he can handle!

That leaves Misako free to wield her magic against the sorceress without distraction.

Only one imp lingers, chewing on a rat and staring blankly at Misako until she feints at it and startles it away.
